Brentwood Local Plan 2016 - 2033 (Pre-Submission, Regulation 19)

Representation ID: 22618

Received: 19/03/2019

Respondent: Mr Toby Skinner

Legally compliant? No

Sound? No

Duty to co-operate? No

Representation Summary:

There is too much traffic on Priests Lane which has only one pavement and is dangerous at times. The Council has not properly looked at this site or considered the residents' safety. There is no room for a bus here and a travel plan will not stop people from driving into town.

Change suggested by respondent:

I do not think that this site should be in the plan, definitely not for this many houses. The Council should also show how they will deal with the traffic risks, and show that the new roads will be safe, and if they cannot, then the site should be taken out.

I object to the proposed development at R19, land at Priests Lane.

There is already too much traffic on Priests Lane. The new development will be along the road where there is only one pavement. The road is not very wide and cars drive close to pedestrians. I have to run across the road where the pavement changes sides at St Andrews Place because it is on a bend and you cannot see cars coming and they come round the bends fast. The road can feel quite dangerous and I do not feel safe cycling along this road. There will be a lot more cars on the road and the new roads onto this site will make things worse. The Council has not properly looked at this site or considered the residents' safety.

The Council talks about reducing school traffic, but I do not think that it will work because a lot of school children get driven to school, or to the station. There is no room for a bus on Priests Lane. I do not think that a travel plan will stop people from driving into town.

I think that the number of houses for the site is too large and does not seem to be based on what fits in with the surroundings.

I do not think the Council has used a sound basis for including this site for this number of houses.

I do not think that this site should be in the plan, definitely not for this many houses. The Council should also show how they will deal with the traffic risks, and show that the new roads will be safe, and if they cannot, then the site should be taken out.
