Local Plan 2015-2030 Preferred Options for Consultation

Representation ID: 26

Received: 11/08/2013

Respondent: Mrs Ann Cardus

Representation Summary:

Previous decisions have adversely impacted Brentwood's ability to host family friendly events and to make the High Street family-friendly and safe. Propose making High Street pedestrian only.

Full text:

The recent, expensive, regeneration of Brentwood High Street already looks tired. Paving slabs are uneven, broken and slippery when wet.
The change in the road surface of the High Street has prevented the continuation of one of the Borough's best attended events bringing wallets to the town centre - the Town Cycle race has been abandoned because it cannot run on the new road surface. This is an incredibly short-sighted decision.
During town centre redevelopment consultation I was advised that pedestrians would cross the road by "making eye contact with drivers" who would slow down enabling pedestrians to cross safely. This hasn't happened.
Propose High Street becomes pedestrian only making it a safer and more welcoming environment for shoppers.

Respondent: Ingatestone and Fryerning Parish Council

Representation Summary:

Re Attractive Shopfronts: We welcome the Plans' emphasis on attractive shop fronts. The control of this in conservation areas such as Ingatestone High Street is considered very important and should be particularly emphasised in the Plan.
