Open Spaces
I support Policies BE22 and BE23 on open spaces and the text in paras 5.178 - 5.185, which explains why we need to protect & enhance these areas. I am particularly keen on promoting the areas in & around Brentwood Town Centre. I would like to specifically draw attention to the open space which is referred to as Coptfold Road Green in the draft Design Guide. In fact, this open public space does not have a proper name as far as I am aware. I think it is time to give this space a proper name. Perhaps the public could be involved in the naming process as part of a re-launch and a refreshing of this space. It should be noted that the open space occupies a prominent position in the area between Coptfold Road and the High Street and could have a more significant role to play in drawing pedestrians through both the Baytree Centre and South Street. In the future, any re-development of the multi-storey car park in Coptfold Road should take care to ensure that any temptation to encroach on this land or to diminish it in any way is avoided. Its status as a "Protected Urban Open Space" under the Proposals Map 2005 should be carried forward into any revised map.
